After meeting with the planners and investors who work with the scholarships and funds I knew right away that an endowed scholarship was the way to go.
Michael Robertson Jones, known to his friends as Mikee, died unexpectedly on February 14, 2009 at the age of 23. Mike, a 2008 graduate of Loyola University of New Orleans was proud of his degree in Music Industry Studies. Prior to his studies at Loyola, Mike studied Architecture at Northeastern University in Boston after his graduation from The Pennington School in ‘03. He was an excellent guitarist, composer and sound engineer and the long time lead guitarist for Energy Field Band. He was also a charismatic marketer having worked for both Hyena and Big Deal Records as a label representative. In the summer of 2007, Mike and his long time friend started a music industry e-commerce business, Lucid Arts Entertainment, LLC for which he was CEO and Chief Marketer. An only child, he was a kind, generous and loving person; who made and kept a wonderful group of friends throughout his life. Mike considered himself a traveling man. One of his favorite endeavors was going to festivals and concerts throughout the United States. Mike was a licensed aircraft pilot, certified scuba diver and certified bartender, who enjoyed boating, snowboarding, and jet skiing. In his youth, he played football, lacrosse and rugby. Mike, a Katrina survivor, helped raise money for Katrina victims by organizing and performing at concerts. He also volunteered for Habitat for Humanity, Humidity Project, Make It Right NOLA, American Cancer Society, Eric Potts Lacrosse-athon, the Kent Family Center, the Dolphin Research Center and as a coach for the Sudlersville Lacrosse Team. Mike hoped to attend the McCoombs School of Business at The University of Texas in the fall to begin earning his MBA. He is survived by his parents, Dr. Robert and Dusti Jones of Chestertown, Maryland and Marathon, Florida.
Scholarship Info:
Michael Robertson Jones, an accomplished young guitarist, composer and music entrepreneur died unexpectedly on February 14, 2009. Known as Mikee to his friends and family, he was lead guitarist in several bands including the Energy Field Band and the MRJ trio, and played solo and sit in at many local venues in Maryland, Florida, and New Orleans. Mikee was CEO of his own music internet business, Lucid Arts Entertainment LLC, a label rep for Hyena and Big Deal Records, and a tireless fundraiser for charitable causes including Relay for Life, Habitat for Humanity and Hurricane Katrina Relief. Clearly, Mikee left a legacy larger than his 23 years in this world, giving freely of his time, energy, and talents to friends, family and community. A native of Chestertown, Maryland, Mikee earned a degree in music industry studies from Loyola University of New Orleans, where he grew to love the people, the city and the University. Mikee’s friends, family and colleagues, in partnership with Loyola University, established the Mikee Jones Music Scholarship in February of 2010. This initiative assists students who are up and coming musicians, music entrepreneurs, and music business leaders with the cost of tuition, books, musical instruments and equipment to help them realize their dreams of making music careers and ventures become reality through their education at Loyola…just like Mikee did.
As of 2023 we have raised and endowed over 150,000 dollars and have given out over 10 scholarships to late year music students at Loyola of New Orleans.
Not only was Mikee schooled in the game of life, he attended great schools where he forged many lifelong friendships!
